I enjoy my spirits neat or on the rocks - especially vodka. There's something about that smoothness, delicate nose, quality of water it's made with, etc. - Squeeze in a lime and I'm in heaven. These brands are all perfectly fine to mix, if you prefer that, but recommend enjoying them like I have them - with a splash of fresh lime - chilled or on the rocks. Simple purity.
While this list is in no means all of them, they are the ones I'm currently into and are in no particular order. None is better than the other, as they are all unique in their own way and made from different ingredients. Give them a try and let me know what you think.
LUXURY BRANDS $$$-$$$$$
- Beluga Gold - Honestly, all of the Beluga varieties are wonderful, but I gravitate more to the Gold. Okay, yes, the Transatlantic is nice too.... actually, they all make the list! Paired with caviar and I'm as close to bliss as it gets.
- {Stoli} Elit - "Vodka is just awesome water" - This quote describes this vodka perfectly! It truly is awesome and worth every penny. I have turned many a friend on to this awesome water.
- Absolut Elyx - ABSOLUTly lovely winter wheat vodka. Just a touch of pepper finish makes this great to sip on in the cooler months. And who doesn't love drinking from their beautiful copper vessels? Do you own any? Makes me feel so fancy!
- Precious Vodka - Comes in a gorgeous diamond shaped bottle, which I will admit, first caught my attention. However, the taste won me over. Harder to find brand, but definitely worth seeking out. Such a unique vodka.
- Haku Vodka - Recently released by Suntory, this Japanese vodka is made from rice and tastes like ice cold water. It is a spectacular vodka and has easily found it's way on my Top 5 List.
EVERYDAY BRANDS $ - $$
- Nicolai - Okay, don't judge. I was served this 'value' grain-blend vodka by mistake - straight, on the rocks and I was completely blown away. I didn't believe it was this brand, so asked to see the bottle and sure enough, it was their well vodka. But WOW - super smooth. And you can't beat the price.
- Kruto Flawless - The 'upper' end of the Kruto line, but still well within an affordable budget. Living up to it's name, this Ukranian vodka is ridiculously flawless! The Original (red label) is also delish, but if I had to choose between the two, I go Blue all the way. I was also honored to have been chosen as a KRUTO52 this year... check it out.
- Western Son - Locally made in Texas, I discovered this vodka many years ago and fell in love with it. While they also make many 'flavors' - I prefer the purity of this clean, smooth vodka that finishes with just a slight, oily potato-like mouth. Made of corn, this is one of the best vodkas I've ever had.... and I've had a LOT of vodkas. No harshness, no burn, just warm goodness flowing down your throat. My go-to vodka and is heavily stocked in my home bar.
- Basic {AF} - I recently discovered this brand at the TBNA Show earlier this summer. It's corn, it's basic and it's pleasantly nice. Just because it's basic though, doesn't mean it doesn't deliver a great taste. Simple, uncomplicated and good. I'll have to admit, I was shocked that I found it so delicious.
- Colorado High - If you like something different, then this is one for you. Made from hemp, it has a slight peppery earthiness to it, but in a good way. Extremely smooth and flavorful, I have this one on the rocks so that as the ice melts, it opens up the flavor of this unique vodka. Won't get you high, but can definitely deliver.
Do you have a favorite sipping vodka not on my list? Comment and let me know so I can try it too!
