Southside Market & Barbeque (106 Co-Op Boulevard, Hutto, TX 78634) is excited to join the Hutto community by welcoming diners to its new barbeque restaurant in Hutto’s innovative 35-acre Co-Op District, a mixed-use destination on U.S. Highway 79. Previously announced to open in 2019, the restaurant, which offers dine-in, take-out, and curbside services as well as a drive-thru, opens October 15, 2020, with COVID protocols taken into consideration.
Southside Market, which originated in downtown Elgin, TX, in 1882, is the oldest BBQ joint in Texas selling authentic Central Texas barbeque for meat-lovers who value quality. Owned by third-generation Pitmaster Bryan Bracewell and his wife Rachel, this iconic restaurant brand has grown over the past 137 years from a one-man butcher shop to its current status as a must-visit destination for those seeking the finest sausage and smoked meats that Texas has to offer. With the original restaurant still operating in Elgin, a second location later added in Bastrop, and the third, most recently opened, located in Austin, Southside Market has earned its reputation as a legendary Texas BBQ joint and secured its place in Texas’ rich barbecue lore. Southside Market is known for its quality sausages and barbeque, their top notch customer service and company culture.
Southside Market at The Co-Op District neighbors the offices for The City of Hutto, which already opened its new City Hall, a two-story, 33,000 square-foot building, which is home to the Hutto Public Library.
“The Co-Op District is the proud center of Hutto, and the renewal of this area allows residents to stay, work, and play in Hutto while offering a big-city experience with a small-town quality of life,” said Bob Wunsch of MA Partners, developer of The Co-Op District. “Southside Market, with its strong national reputation and history, is a welcomed natural fit for the community. As a family-owned Texas business, Southside Market is a perfect match, and we are excited to have the restaurant in Hutto.”
Southside Market’s history in the barbeque industry dates back to 1882 when original founder William Moon began selling meat in Elgin by the wagonload. At the end of each day, he’d take whatever was left and make smoked sausage and barbeque to avoid spoilage, as in that era there was no refrigeration. Four years later, he opened up a storefront on what was then known as South Street, and the legend began. Bracewell’s grandfather, who called on the store as a salesman at the time, decided to buy the business in 1968, and the family has carried on the rich tradition of exceptional sausage and barbeque following the same authentic methods of smoking low and slow over real Texas post oak wood, since 1882.
The Southside Market Hutto location will serve the same beloved menu as the Elgin, Bastrop, and Austin locations of BBQ-by-the-half pound, including the famous Original Beef Sausage, USDA Prime brisket, chopped beef, jalapeño cheddar sausage, chicken, pork, ribs, and more. Sandwiches, salads, a loaded chopped brisket baked potato, and sides, including coleslaw, beans, corn on the cob, potato salad, and mac & cheese, are available on the lunch and dinner menu. Larger family-style meals are also available and the restaurant offers a variety of catering packages. Guests are invited to end their meal with a sweet treat from a selection of homemade cobblers, banana pudding, or a hand-dipped ice cream cone. The Hutto location features an outdoor patio, a drive-thru for easy ordering on-the-go, and offers Southside’s premium seasoning blends, smoked meats, sauces, and more for sale. Whether you're a local, passing through, or looking to take a road trip to enjoy real Texas BBQ, the Hutto location is a must-visit stop in Central Texas.
“Rachel and I are both so thankful for the tremendous opportunity to bring our Texas-friendly hospitality and Central Texas BBQ to Hutto,” said Bryan Bracewell, owner of Southside Market & Barbeque. “Southside Market is our family history, our legacy, our everything. We are excited to serve and meet our new neighbors. When selecting where to open our fourth location, we feel very blessed to have found another community of kindred spirits in the City of Hutto.”
Upon opening, Southside Market & Barbeque will offer dining at 75% capacity to adhere to CDC recommended guidelines for restaurants during this time. In addition to their 2,131 square-foot indoor dining area that can seat 106 people at 75% capacity, the Hutto location offers a spacious 733 square-foot outdoor patio for dining that can seat 36 people at this capacity. The restaurant offers 94 parking spaces and will employ 50 people. Customers are required to wear face masks when not eating and restaurant spacing has been adjusted to ensure 6 feet of separation between dining parties. Southside Market & Barbeque is open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
