If you know me fairly well, you know I'm obsessed with reality TV. I guess it started with Big Brother, Survivor and Operation Repo. Over the years, it's progressed to shows mostly on TLC Network (can we talk 90-Day Fiance and all those spin-offs?) and my favorite - BRAVO TV. Specifically, the Real Housewives series. All fabulous to enjoy with a vodka cocktail.
Throughout the Housewives series, they've featured New York, New Jersey, Miami, Dallas, Potomac (just no), Atlanta, Beverly Hills and the O.G, Orange County. Did I miss any?? These shows have been a great jumping point for these "housewives" to launch new businesses or projects, piggy-backing onto the shows' timing and success. Hey, strike while it's hot right? Sadly, many of these products and/or careers have been short-lived. Let's look back at a few: Sonja's Toaster Oven, Wines: Pinot Grigio by Ramona (RHONY) and the Witches of WeHo by the gals on Vanderpump Rules, Diamond water and a sneaker line (Shahs of Sunset), Black drinking water and who can forget Melissa's singing career (RHONJ), although her boutique is super hot. Some of the more successful ones include the Countess' Cabaret Show, Tre's cookbooks, and the infamous Skinny Girl empire by Bethenny Frankel (QUEEN!!!).
From Beverly Hills, we also were blessed with Vanderpump Rules, featuring Lisa Vanderpump (who is a bar/restaurant mogel!!) and crew. She also has a vodka called (of course) Vanderpump Vodka which unfortunately I've not been able to find in Texas, but can be found in all her establishments. Which brings us to another vodka launched by a housewife.... enter Elizabeth Lyn Vargas... my FAVORITE housewife to date and sadly, was a one-season wonder. I loved her personality, strength and openness. She just seemed "real". So when the announcement was made that she wasn't returning for another season, I messaged her to say how sorry I was going to be not seeing her every week on the show, to which she (actually) responded and said she was too, but that she had other things in the works and to stay tuned. So I did ... and Man, oh Man, I'm so glad I did. I've followed her as she renovated a beautiful property, started We Care Rescue Ranch, a podcast, a new show spotlighting success stories of positive people doing positive things AND launched a new vodka brand!! In her interview with OK Magazine, she stated that she 'wanted to launch a vodka years ago but felt it wasn't the right time', but when the pandemic hit, it presented the perfect opportunity and Vargas Vodka launched in December 2020.
That said, let's get into what this blog is really about - Vargas Vodka! This girl is killing it with her new brand and making the rounds to promote it. I've seen her on podcasts, at golf tournaments, sponsoring events and parties, wearing her merch and in the actual stores carrying her product.
Vargas Vodka is available via Drizly, Total Wine and local California liquor stores and retails for $20-$25. Hand crafted, made from corn, distilled 7x and is "inspired by the tales of Spanish explorers who were lured by the legend of Queen Califia, the emperor fabled island of California (as depicted in the logo). A portion of proceeds of sales goes back to her no-kill animal rescue ranch.
Unfortunately, it's not yet available here in Texas and since Texas is a state where we cannot get Spirits shipped in, I suppose I'm going to have to go to California to get some to get you guys a true flavor review. So why write about this? Because she is one of the most truly real and kind people I've ever known and because of the tie it has back to Texas - namely being Austin resident, billionaire philanthropist John Paul DeJoria of Paul Michell, Patron/Ultimat Vodka and Peace, Love & Happiness Foundation fame. I met John Paul in 2012 at the Inaugural Formula One race at Circuit of the Americas when I was working as a greeter at the VIP Suites and saw him in the years following. He was so kind and friendly and is such a generous, giving man. When I heard he was involved in Vargas Vodka and We Care Rescue Ranch, it didn't surprise me at all. I found out he also is the co-host of Elizabeth's new show - Success of Unusual People - so I'm really excited to watch. You can catch trailers on her Instagram social media account.
As you can see, there's more to this former Housewife and I'm so glad that she's launched her own vodka brand - giving me another reason to love her! I look forward to what else she is up to in the future.
