Austin’s favorite Eastside destination for handcrafted cocktails is offering up a new round of mixed drinks guaranteed to pack a punch. Whisler’s, the craft-cocktail bar, mezcalería and easygoing, speakeasy-style haunt beloved for its expertly prepared spirits concoctions, is now serving a variety of unique punch bowl cocktails, as well as some new signature and classic cocktails with a springtime twist.
Available for birthday gatherings, romantic anniversary celebrations, post-work get-togethers or simply a casual meet-up with friends, the new Whisler’s punch bowls elevate any occasion to a festive celebration. Reminiscent of embellished party punch bowls of eras gone by, each vintage Whisler’s punch bowl, curated from a selection of artfully crafted pieces, was specifically selected for its imaginative and decorative aesthetics. Fashioned in the form of charming ceramic animal planters, Whisler’s punch bowls are available in an array of shapes and sizes, and can serve anywhere from one to six cocktail punch lovers.
For the two to three-person punch bowl ($20-$25) and four to six-person punch bowl ($35), patrons choose their favorite from Whisler’s menu of handcrafted punch bowl cocktail offerings, which includes the Rings of Saturn, a spring-inspired blend of Texas-based Highborn Gin, fresh lemon juice, house-made passion fruit syrup, falernum, orgeat syrup and a few dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters; and the sassy Touch of Love, prepared with Cruzan Black Strap Rum, Old Forester Bourbon, Amaro Montenegro, curaçao liqueur, pineapple and lime juices, all topped with a splash of club soda. And Whisler’s punch bowl connoisseurs who are feeling particularly lucky can opt for the rotating seasonal specialand allow Whisler’s bartending masters, the real punch pros, to handcraft a massive original, seasonally-inspired cocktail for the group.
Also gracing the Whisler’s menu this season is a variety of new signature and classically inspired cocktails made from scratch. Classic springtime cocktails include the Queen Bee, a blend of gin, lemon, honey and lavender bitters, garnished with a sprinkle of fresh bee pollen; and Whisler’s take on the classic Old Fashioned, the best in town.
Springtime signature cocktails include the Bird of Paradise, a bright yet delicate mix of Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey, Dolin Blanc Vermouth, a few dashes of herbaceous Grains of Paradise Tincture, fresh cantaloupe and cucumber juices, and simple syrup, all garnished with a fresh cantaloupe triangle; the Gallant Fox, sure to be a new springtime favorite, with gin, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, blackberry-sorrel syrup and fresh lemon, garnished with skewered blackberries; the Paluxysaurus, a monster of a drink named after the official state dinosaur of Texas, with Mezcal El Silencio, house-made tarragon syrup, fresh grapefruit and lime juices, a couple dashes of pecan bitters and a grapefruit triangle garnish; and the Jamaican Matchmaker, an island-style concoction of silky Flor de Caña Silver Rum, Smith & Cross Jamaican Rum, house-made matcha syrup, lemon juice, orgeat syrup, Bittercube Jamaican #2 bitters and garnished with an edible flower.
Whisler’s is located at 1816 E. Sixth St. in East Austin. Housed in a historic Austin building turned updated, eccentric speakeasy, Whisler’s serves handcrafted classic and signature cocktails in the open main bar and outdoor patio.
